Singapore Stopovers with kids

Singapore Stopovers with kids

Flying Singapore Airlines is always a great idea. Adding a Singapore stopover is genius: especially when you’re travelling with kids! We have done 3 (return!) Singapore stopovers with our kids and squeezed in as much fun, food, and adventure as we could. Here’s what we did, where we stayed, and how to make the most of your stopover with kids in tow.

Where We Stayed 🏨

Trip 1: We stayed at the Sofitel Singapore City Centre on Wallich Street. The rooms were large, beautifully styled, and the rooftop pool was a huge hit with the kids (and a welcome relief after a long flight).

We booked two nights even though we only needed one! This meant we kept our room until late evening for showers, naps, and repacking before our midnight flight. Highly recommend!

Trip 2 was a super stop stop over, just 15 hours. If you have a shorter stopover, consider using Dayuse.com to book a hotel room just for the day, perfect for naps, showers, or letting the kids swim between flights. We have done this twice and its been epic. There are so many hotels to choose from.

On trip 3 (and the return leg of MANY trips) we stayed within the airport itself. Your can literally wheel your luggage trolley from the baggage carosel to your hotel room! Our fav is the  Crowne Plaza Changi Airport and it is incredible. Proper. full size hotel rooms, buffet food and pools all overlooking the runway. A quick swim at 10 PM before our flight helped the kids burn off energy - and they slept the whole way home!

What We Ate 🍢🥞🍣

Dinners at Lau Pa Sat: Satay Street

On our first night, we headed straight to Lau Pa Sat (also known as Satay Street) and it’s a must-do. The smells are tantalising, the food is mouth-watering, and the atmosphere is buzzing.

We ate our bodyweight in satay, noodles, dumplings, curry and naan, and loved the affordable prices. A little tip: bring cash, baby wipes and bring culinary courage! There are so many interesting things to try!

Exploring street food markets like this one is a fantastic way to broaden kids’ horizons and help them understand and appreciate different cultures through food.

Breakfast: Pancake & Waffle Place

The next morning, we started with a family-friendly breakfast of pancakes and waffles to fuel up for a big day ahead.

Check out their menu here

Lunch at Takashimaya Food Hall

Later, we visited Takashimaya! A famous Japanese department store with a food hall that’s pure heaven. Even if you’re not hungry, it’s worth walking through the stalls just to admire the incredible variety of Asian cuisine being made and served. There's something for everyone — even picky eaters will find a favourite.

🚇 Getting Around Singapore

Singapore is one of the easiest cities to navigate with kids. It’s clean, safe, and super efficient — which is exactly what you want during a short stopover!

🚕 Ride Share (Grab)

Singapore doesn’t use Uber, but locals and tourists alike rely on Grab, which works just like Uber. You can download the Grab app before your trip, link a card, and book rides quickly and safely, perfect when little legs are too tired to walk.

🚇 MRT (Subway)

The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system is another great option. It’s air-conditioned, affordable, and super clean. We used the EZ-Link card, which you can top up and tap on/tap off at stations. The signage is clear, and stations are stroller-friendly with lifts and escalators. Make a plan of where to buy your passes though, as they arent alwasy available at the stations.

💡 Tip: Use Google Maps to navigate the MRT system, it gives real-time directions, station names, and estimated travel time.

What We Did 🌺🌆🍦

Gardens by the Bay

A must do for any family visiting Singapore is Gardens by the Bay — one of Singapore’s top attractions and one of our families favourites!

We explored the Flower Dome, which holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest glass greenhouse. It was a gorgeous mix of nature, sculpture, and imagination. (Hot tip: bring a jumper or sweater — it’s chilly inside, even though Singapore is hot and humid outside!)

Unfortunately, the Cloud Forest was closed for maintenance — a good reminder to check schedules online and plan your trip around any closures.

Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck

From the Gardens, you can take a short walk to the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark — a stunning rooftop viewing deck with 360° views of Singapore. Even on an overcast day, it was absolutely worth the admission fee.

Museum of Ice Cream 🍨

One of the craziest and kookiest things we have done in Singapore was to visit the Museum of Ice Cream. A quirky, colourful, and interactive experience where each room is themed around a different flavour and era of ice cream.

We danced, played in a life-sized sprinkle pit, crawled through tunnels, snapped pics — and, yes, ate way too much ice cream. The kids had a ball. They have talked about this experince none stop!

Visit the S.E.A. Aquarium 🐠

If you're looking for a quieter or more educational indoor activity, the S.E.A. Aquarium at Sentosa is a great alternative. It's one of the largest aquariums in the world, home to over 100,000 marine animals across 1,000 species. A calm and fascinating break from the city.

🛍️ Bonus Stop: Jewel Changi Airport

Before our midnight flight, we explored the Jewel Changi Airport and WOW. If you’ve never seen a mall with a 40-metre indoor waterfall, you’re in for a treat.

The kids loved the Canopy Park, with its bouncing nets, mazes, and glass bridges, while we wodnered the mall and relaxed. I even got a pedicure!

If you're flying Singapore Airlines, you can also arrange early baggage check-in so you’re free to roam hands-free.

We grabbed a quick dinner from SHAKE SHAK, (the boys got a hair cut!) and us girls a massage, all before our flight. This place is a real ONE STOP SHOP!

🐬 Wrapping It All Up

Singapore is the perfect place for a stopover with kids. Clean, efficient, safe, and packed with unforgettable attractions: from hawker food feasts to futuristic gardens and wild museums, there’s something to delight every member of the family.

We left with full bellies, happy hearts, and tired kids ready to snooze all the way home.
